It's been impossible to find a new fin (teeth are available nearly anywhere). But yesterday I met Simone and Markus of the Funboard Center Boaracay. By chance Simone had a fitting fin on stock - Yahoooooo! And when I wanted to pay for I only got a bright smile.
Thank you Simone

( 2.9 / 66 )Cagayan de Oro:
The Divisoria is one of Cagayan de Oro's most lively roads.
The day over jeepneys bring end fetch students from nearby Xavier University. There are coffe shops, libraries and copy shops.

But every Friday and Saturday night both lanes are closed for traffic from 5:00 PM. Hundreds of vendors appear out of nowhere and build up
their stands in the middle of the road.
And as night falls around 6:00 PM, the streets are full of people looking for a bargain, entertainment and of course something good to eat.

Friends meet around a bucket of beer or ice-tea, have a snack or a big dinner. From 8:00 PM there is life music.
This ethnical and religious mix (the vendors are mostly muslim, while the restaurant owners are catholics) transforms the Divisoria in a boiling meltingpot until the early hours the next morning.

And most astonishing: When you get to the Divisoria next morning, everything is clean as if nothing had happened the previous night.

So, if you are in Cagayan de Oro on a weekend, stay in one of the hotels on Velez Street (the City Grand or the Nature's Pensionne). This is just around the corner and you can enjoy the Divisoria night market until you feel tired.

( 3 / 69 )The sun still makes us happy. The low pressure south of Mindanao does a great job.
We write this message to share our good feelings with you.
Have a sunny day

( 2.9 / 62 )After almost 3 weeks of rain and storm the sun came back last Sunday. What a name SUNday!
The southern Visayas and northern Mindanao suffered from the rain and the high sea. In Cagayan de Oro over 30'000 people are displaced because the Cagayan River did destroy the houses on the river banks.
In parts of Camiguin the coast-line did change dramatically.
The sun is now back and the sea is quiet. But there is still a very flat low pressure south of Mindanao. Even if it is very flat (only a 10 mbar gradient) it steers the direction of the cloud flow coming from Palau and Guam.
So be careful !

NEW PAGES: Informs you about newly added or updated pages
BLOG NEWS: Is a link to this blog
WEBCAM: Is not yet operational. The camera got too much water.

SITEMAP: If you get lost, here is the map.
The flags link to our translation pages.

This was the old one:

And this is the new one:

We now use the same header bar on all pages. If you find the new header bar, you know that this page has already been reworked.
And there is one advantage: grayed items are items you have already visited. (This only works, if you always clean your browser history when leaving). We strongly recommend to do this for security and privacy reasons.
And yes, there are already new pages:
- Manila NAIA airport got a better map and information about the passenger pick-up area
- There is now an on-line tide calculator

( 3 / 72 )On almost each page of our website we offer a form for inquiries, comments and requests. These forms are used about 6 times every day.
And more and more Pinays and Pinoys are using these forms. Most of them are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). And the language they use is a funny mix of Tagalog and English = Taglish.
Here is a sample:
Tanong ko lang kng pwede kami maka avail ng transfer bus from NAIA1 to Centennial Terminal 2, kc ang flight namin from Amsterdam to Manila. Bali KLM ang plane namin tapos sa january 16 2009 ang dating namin sa Manila 9:45am then same day flight namin from Manila to Cebu 2pm (Philippine Airlines). Makakuha ba kami ng free transfer bus?
Funny, isn't it!

( 3.1 / 93 )LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines
The weather here has remained exceptionally cold and the province's farmers are now on a frost watch as the temperature in the upland towns measured 6 degrees Celsius on Friday.
But thanks to the strong winds, no widespread frost happened, except for some farms that are caught between mountain slopes, said provincial agriculturist Lolita Bentres.
"But there is no damage to speak of. There maybe frost in some farms difficult to be reached by sunlight early in the morning but they are small and isolated cases," she said.
On Friday, the weather bureau in nearby Baguio City recorded the temperature at 8.8 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the 7.5 degrees on Thursday morning.
Benguet's upland vegetable towns usually experience colder weather, which is 2 to 3 degrees lower than the weather bureau's record.
On Thursday and Friday, the temperature in the upland towns went down to 6 degrees Celsius.
The reading was taken before sunrise by the Atok town agriculture office.
Bentres said she has not received reports that frost has occurred in Barangays Balili in Mankayan town, Paoay in Atok town, Madaymen in Kibungan town and Natubleng in Buguias town.
These areas, known collectively as Benguet's "Little Alaska," were often hit first when massive frost occurred in the past.
Fred Rufino, Atok agriculture officer, said spots of frost hit Barangay Paoay on Thursday but these were isolated since the areas hit were small farms located along slopes or deep areas not easily reached by sunlight.
"The farmers are also basically busy preparing their lands for planting so there would be no alarming damage to vegetables in case there would be frost," he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Homer Teliaken, chair of the village of Madaymen in Kibungan town, said the weather was exceptionally cold on Thursday but there was no frost.
He said the strong winds in the morning helped ease the cold. "But even the breeze was so sold that we had to wear scarves to cover our faces," he said.
He however said that some farmers were worried that frost may occur should the week's cold temperature persist.
Asano Asan, Buiguias agriculturist, said there was no frost in the villages of Natubleng and Sinipsip, believed to be the town's coldest areas this time of the year.

( 3.1 / 94 )We got the pictures from the Zestair crash in Caticlan on January 12, 2009. See also our blog entry.
A Zest Air (former Asian Spirit) Xian MA-60, registration RP-C8893 performing flight 6K-895 from Manila to Caticlan (Philippines) with 22 passengers and 3 crew, impacted ground before runway 06 during its second approach, veered sharply to the left and hit a concrete barrier. One passenger suffered serious injuries (fractures) in the accident, 25 other people including three airport workers received minor injuries. The ground personnel was hit by debris as the airplane impacted the barrier.
The Chinese Xian (translated to English: "Modern Ark") MA-60 is a derivative of the Antonov AN-26, which was manufactured in license by the Chinese company Xi'an. The first twin turboprop MA-60 flew in year 2000.

Not too nice!

At least the fountain has not been dmaged.

( 3 / 87 )Flash floods and landslides brought by the tail-end of a cold front has continued threatening Eastern and Northern Mindanao, weather forecaster Pagasa said on Friday.
The tail-end of a cold front is affecting Visayas and Mindanao, while the northeast monsoon is affecting Luzon, according to Pagasa's 5 a.m. bulletin.
"The eastern section of Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered light rains," the bulletin said. "Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers becoming widespread rains over Eastern and Northern Mindanao and Eastern Visayas which may trigger flash floods and landslides."
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rains.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the entire archipelago and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
Meanwhile, Pagasa advised fishing boats and small seacraft not to venture out to sea due to big waves.
It advised larger seacraft to be on the alert for big waves.
Pagasa said the northern, eastern, and western seaboards of Northern Luzon would be "rough to high."
The southern seaboard of Southern Luzon, the seaboard of Eastern Visayas, the seaboard of Western and Central Visayas, and the seaboards of Eastern Mindanao will be "rough to very rough."
