This morning I took Cebu Pacific flight 5J340 from KLO to MNL. It was more than a pleasure.
Scheduled for 09:50 a.m. the plane took off at 09:35 because everybody was on board. That only happens in the Philippines. My boarding card showed seat 1C. I am used to be seated in row 11 or 12 because of my long legs and my ability to handle emergency exits. This time I sat in the best seat of all possible seats. (Salut Voltaire - Candide).
And then came Chris - Maitre de cabine. Cheerful as 99.99% of Cebu Pacific Air staff are. After the "Oxygene and Lifewest Show" she handed me a copy of SMILE - the inflight magazine of Cebu Pacific Air.
My novel, I had planned to read, went back to my bag and I started to scan SMILE. First the motorbike story of Bohol took all my attention. I did Bohol on a motorbike last spring. Then I switched to the "Time to travel to" section. It's always interesting to read the critics and hints of people living in the place they write about.
Living on the most beautiful beach of Panay, north of Kalibo in Brgy. Dumatad of Tangalan, I looked for Kalibo.
Reading the Kalibo review on page 72 my smile grew, grew bright - and if I hadn't been attached by my seatbelt, Chris would have gotten a huge kiss. (Sorry for the seatbelt Chris). The co-operation with Cebu Pacific Air works fine. Your favourite site SILENT GARDENS finds its reference on page 72 of the feb/mar edition.

Unfortunately the editors from "SMILE" did print my private cell-phone number instead of my business number. But it's always a pleasure to describe the way to Jawili Blue Starfish resort to an unknown person.
Thanks SMILE, Thanks Chris

( 3.3 / 393 )Good news: The sun is back !
Since september 2007 we never had more than 2 consecutive days of sunshine. But since March 10, 2008 there is sunshine all over the day.
Nature sends signals that everything is OK again:
All plants are producing flowers and young leaves and the migrant birds are back.
The ITCZ is going down south. The dry north-west streams from the continent push back the wet south-east streams cominc over the Pacific.

( 3 / 420 )Since fall 2007 we encounter bad weather conditions. Is it "La Niña"?
La Niña causes mostly the opposite effects of El Niño, for example, El Niño would cause a dry period in the Philippines, while La Niña would typically cause a wet period in this area.
In simple terms, whereas El Niño causes drier weather on West Pacific seaboards, ie. Eastern Australia or Southeast Asia, and wetter, humid weather in the East Pacific, ie. Western Americas; La Niña causes opposite conditions, although usually to a lesser extreme.
Currently, there is a moderate La Niña, which began developing in mid-2007. NOAA confirmed that a moderate La Niña developed in their November El Niño/Southern Oscillation Diagnostic Discussion, and that it will likely continue into 2008. According to NOAA, "Expected La Niña impacts during November – January include a continuation of above-average precipitation over the Philippines and below-average precipitation over the central equatorial Pacific.

( 3 / 448 )This is my very last evening in Switzerland.
Heidi and Hugo from the Gotthard in Goldau recommendet a fine country-side restaurant: The Roessli in Menzingen.
I have been surprised by this small restaurant. Cheerful people, careful waiters and excellent cuisine. While I only ate a small pizza, I got tasty sauces aside. I never felt alone in my corner, because a cheerful staff served me always with a smile.
Sorry, they do not yet have a website, but they do have e-mail. Be sure to reserve: ROESSLI-MENZINGEN

( 3 / 469 )I realy like Pinoy cuisine. But being till tomorrow in Switzerland I had the pleasure to taste real Swiss Cuisine. I've been 3 times at the Gotthard in Goldau and I have always been greeted and served as a friend.
The staff is smiling even at 11:00 PM and the kitchen is delicious.
I did eat a Roesti Hugo. So I am sorry that Hugo did loose a bit of wight. And I did get a pound more...
If you feel hungry in the country of Willhelm Tell, stop by the Gotthard in Goldau.
Cheers to the whole crew at the GOTTHARD in Goldau.

Dear, Sonja, Heidi, Mauro and Hugo see you soon in Dumatad or Jawili

( 3 / 628 )Your editor is being in Switzerland until next week, but you will not be without news. He found a fine hotel in a remote place called Menzingen (central Switzerland) and there, he found the perfect hotel.
The services and cuisine are excellent but the top surprise is the communications and IT equipment in each room (see below).
Maybe it's a good sign that your ed lives in room #13

The Silent gardens Team strongly recommends the Ochsen in Menzingen.

( 3 / 493 )We get more and more requests for information (e.g. weather, embassies and tours). Unfortunately there are often mistyped e-mail addresses, our answer bounces back and we cannot help.
The last such message came from Patrick McCormick. Sorry Patrick, our answer came back with a message saying that your address does not exist.
We therefore did insert a second e-mail address field in our forms. If you do not copy/paste
Greetings from your webmaster.
