Lawnmower got a baby
The lawnmower of Ernst & Silvia Richner got a baby. Ernst and Silvia are the owners of the SILENT GARDEN RESORT. For years now they use an ecological lawnmower instead of a noisy and smoking gasoline machine.
Their lawnmower is a cow called "Brownie".

Yesterday Brownie gave life to a female calf. It has not yet got a name and we therefore invite you to send us your suggestions. Make yourself a picture of the mother and the baby:

Sunburn
The white sands of the Philippine beaches like the ones on White Island reflect the sun. This is why you MUST wear the MANDATORY 3 PIECE SWIMMSUIT:

1) HAT
2) SUNGLASSES
3) SUNSCREEN

If you do not follow these simple rules,
you may look like this in the evening:

Use a sunscreen with a protection factor of 40 or more. Apply the sunscreen after each bath and re-apply every 2 hours. So you are save.

Squatters !
Maybe you know that Filipino houses do have 2 kitchens, one inside for the clean and non-smelly work, and one outside, called the dirty kitchen, for work like fish and meat cleaning and cutting.
This morning when I went outside, I found my "dirty kitchen" squatted by six puppies. Their mother must have brought them last night to my house.

If you are a dog specialist, I would be glad to learn the age of "my" puppies and whether they are of a particular race.

Camiguin ring road interrupted
The 64km ring road around Camiguin Island is interrupted at km 54.
This is between Naasag and the Old Volcano in the north-west of the Island.

There are security maintenance works up the volcano slope.
The road is closed daily from 08:00 am to 12:00 nn and from 01:00 pm to 05:00 pm.

Schedule your travel according to this closing hours. The road is covered with sand and debris and is in a bad state for about 250 meters.

Be careful.

The Giant Clams Nursery of Cantaan (Camiguin)
Nestled in a cove near Cantaan is a beautiful beach with white sand. This beach facing Mindanao is already a surprise. But actually the real surprise is the Giant Clam Nursery.

It is a pleasure to observe the Giant Clams. They react on your movements and close their shells with astonishing speed. When you approach more carefully, or wait a few seconds while the clam opens again, you can observe the breathing and other movements.

For swimmers:
In addition to above dry visits you may go snorkeling around the nursery. You will first get some instructions, especially what you must not do. It is an unforgettable sight of this silent giants. From time to time the one or the other clam closes their shells with a super fast clap.

Working at night in the Philippines can be very exiting. Last night I got a bug inspecting my program bugs. Unfortunately my debugger was on, so the bug flew away in horror. :-u

No shadow!
Have you ever stood in the sunlight and you could not see your shadow?
I experienced this thrilling feeling just 2 hours ago in Cagayan de Oro on the Island of Mindanao.

Make sure that you have sunglasses, sunscreen (factor 40 or more) and a hat.

Sunny greetings from Cagayan de Oro :-)

Travelling office and Internet
Traveling and working is an easy task in the Philippines.
All you need is a laptop computer and a cell-phone.
SMART, the largest telecom operator within the Philippines offers GPRS connections even with your prepaid SIM card (SMART Buddy). The connection costs PHP 10 per 30 minutes and connection speed is between 200 and 480kbps. The speed depends on the signal strength. With 4 or 5 bars you can expect 480 kpbs.

My today's temporary office is at Nature's Pensionne in Cagayan de Oro on Mindanao Island. See below what you need. From left to right: SMILE, the inflight magazine of CebuPacificAir, your cellphone with a SMART Buddy SIM, a connection to your laptop cumputer (bluetooth or USB) and your laptop computer.
