And if you like warm water, the sea around our islands is about 29*C.Too warm to be refreshing, but fine to be relaxing.

From Amihan to Habagat - the hottest day
Twice a year the tradewinds change. In the Philippines, in winter, we have Amihan and in summer Habagat is blowing.

These days is the change from Amihan to Habagat. Result: No wind or weak winds changing the direction all the time.

Other result: It is hot, very hot. Only the winds coming from the sea can blow the hot air from the islands. When there is no wind, the overheated air over the land stays and we are sweating.

Today seems to be the hottest day of 2009 in the Philippines.

NAIA Domestic Terminal is very quiet now
Remember, a year ago Cebu Pacific Air did move from NAIA Domestic Terminal to NAIA-3.

Now you only find ZESTair and SEAIR in the old Domestic Terminal.

You can see the difference already when you arrive with the taxi: There is no queue outside waiting in the blasting sun.
No queuing up at the first security check, you just get a smile while your luggage passes the X-Ray scanner.

And then the check-in hall: EMPTY (no, nearly empty!)
There are on the left 4 counters for SEAIR and straight ahead 4 counters for ZESTair. Here 2 people waiting and there 4 people at the counter. It is as quiet as in a church on a workday.

And then the second security check: Only one lane is open and one single officer (female) checks everybody with a smile while she looks with one eye on the X-Ray screen.

The departure lounge is only occupied to one third or even less.

Now one can realy enjoy NAIA Domestic terminal. No stress, no hassle but lots of smiles. :-):-):-):-):-)

Warm welcome back in the Philippines
This afternoon I arrived around 3:00pm in Manila NAIA-1 with Qatar flight QR646 from Doha.

In the aircraft we got a new form to fill in: Health Inquiry!
Just before the Health Control on arrival in NAIA-1 (see also our arrival guide) they had installed a new check-point. Fortunately the long queue moved very fast and only a few passengers were asked to get a close examination.

At immigration all counters were open. So I had not to queue up and got my visa stamp in less than 30 seconds! This is a new World record!

My luggage was already on the carousel when I arrived there. So I could proceed to the customs desk without waiting.
I had checked electronics goods on the Customs Declaration Form. the officer asked me about the kind of electronics goods I had with me. My answer that these were some PC parts I could not find in the Philippines satisfied the officer's curiosity.

In less than 14 minutes, starting from the aircraft's door, I had been out in the warm sun of Manila. I never had done it as fast before...

Crazy Luggage Rules
A friend reported the following to us:

At the check-in with a Dutch airline in Europe he had 26kg of luggage.
The girl told him that only 22kg pass and the other 4kg would cost 4x50 EUR. He then got his laptop PC out of the luggage. Fine 4kg less in the luggage, check-in OK, but 4kg more to carry around in the airport.

The game continued, no worsened, in Manila.
Sorry Sir, only 15kg allowed told him the check-in staff at the Cebu-Pacific counter. Swoosh, some books out and put in a plastic bag. The check-in luggage was down to 15kg. But the hand carried luggage went up to 4 + 7 = 11kg. No problem.

Now 11kg to carry through security checks and long gray walkways in NAIA Termianl-3.

Our friend tried to talk at both check-in counters about this paranoid weight restrictions, because the total weight did not change one gram.

"Sorry Sir, these are the rules" was the common answer in Europe and in NAIA-3. Where is the logic? Maybe money making ???

At least in Caticlan you have to stand on the weight and the overall load is noted in a form for the pilot. So the plane will take off and smash in the bush.

Zest Airlines has temporarily stopped flying to Masbate City
Zest Airlines has temporarily stopped flying to Masbate City while the Masbate Runway is under renovation. MasbateTravel.com will update this website as soon as notification of flights from Manila resume. There are alternate ways to travel to Masbate Island and consider Masbate from Southern Luzon by sea from Pilar Sorsogon Fastcraft and from Cebu to Masbate.

Oceansource.net violates copyright
Ocenasource.net and their site designer Herringbone copy content from other websites.

Oceansource.net wants to crate a new Windsurf Center on Bulabog Beach on Boracay Island. To do so, they not only kick out the well established Funboard Center, but they also use most of the photos of the existing windsurf base.

The most ugly act of Internet piracy is the publishing of photos of the owner of the Bulabog Funbord Center, Mrs. Simone Bartmann on the Oceansource.net website.

Traveling Geneva and more
Discover means travel.
Geneva is really a hot spot. We have a temporary office in Lausanne overlooking Lake Geneva. It's awesome, it's beautiful.

But there are gangs of French youngsters crossing the border. They attacked us last night with their scooters. They could not steal anything, but your Ed's eye is black now, and one of the guys won't make love for another 10 days... Do not go to Geneva, but come to the Philippines.

Who says that the Philippines are dangerous? Come and see...

Overwight - the game continues
If you are a passenger coming in from an intercontinental flight you carry at least 20 kilograms when you fly economy or 30 kilograms when you fly biz class.

And then at NAIA you have to pay: Caticlan 10kg allowed and 15kg for other destinations. Any kilogram more will be charged PHP 100.

Caticlan, we understand. The aircrafts are small and the runway is very short. But for the other destinations it's simply a money making fee.

But now also ferries and cats put their fingers in your wallet.
Paras Sea Cat from Cagayan de Oro to Camiguin allows only 10kg free luggage. Any kilogram more costs you PHP 25.00.

We love Paras Sea Cat who links us with Cagayan de Oro in less than 2 hours and we understand that they charge a cargo fee for big boxes, but tourists should be off limits.
