MTV shooting on Camiguin Island

Due to the turbulences of typhoon Fengshen the MTV did arrive one day late on Camiguin island. Today MTV did take sequences with 2 crews in different spots of our island.

The final movie will inform you about the southern Philippines, the impact of climate changes and environmental impact.

We keep you informed about the programmed schedule.

[Ed's note: me too, I got late. I've been in Naga City (Bicol) until Friday. My plane took off just before the landfall of Fengshen. This was a turbulent flight to Manila and later to Cagayan de Oro. On Friday no ferry could do the 1 hour trip from Balingoan to Benoni. So I arrived also one day late, but never too late, to inform you.]

Fengshen: Only Signal 2, but killing
MANILA -- Only three survivors have been found after a ferry with more than 700 people onboard capsized near the central Philippine island of Sibuyan, according to a Philippines Coast Guard official on Sunday.

Four bodies have been found floating in the waters, a Coast Guard official said.

Only the boat's rear keel remained above water a mile offshore, officials said.

The first Coast Guard rescue ship arrived just before 2 p.m. (2 am ET), and divers immediately began their search for survivors. Two more rescue ships were on the way, officials said.

The crew of the MV Princess of Stars reported Saturday that it ran aground after its engine failed during its regular run between Manila and Cebu City, according to Vice Adm. Wilfredo Tamayo.

The ferry was carrying 130 crew members and more than 600 passengers, officials said. Video Watch what's known about the ship »

Radio contact with the ship was lost Saturday afternoon, and rough seas stirred up by Typhoon Fengshen slowed efforts to reach the ferry. The typhoon made landfall in the eastern Philippines early Saturday (late Friday ET).

The news came as the death toll climbed to at least 80, most of them in the central province of Iloilo, with another 40 missing, The Associated Press cited its governor, Neil Tupaz, as saying.

Typhoon Fengshen was reported to have top sustained winds of 110 mph (177 kph), although the storm lost strength after moving ashore. Philippine officials said at least 17 people had been killed by landslides and rising waters caused by the storm.

Fengshen is still moving across the Philippines, dumping torrential rains fueled by 75 mph (120 kph) winds as it pushes toward Manila, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

Typhoon Fengshen closing in
Update: 8:59pm from REUTERS
MANILA, June 20 (Reuters) - The Philippines placed army units on alert on Friday as Typhoon Fengshen swept into the centre of the archipelago with gusts of up to 140 kph (87 mph).

Fengshen, the sixth typhoon to hit the Southeast Asian country this year, was expected to dump rains over the Philippines' eastern islands before heading back out into the Pacific Ocean south of Okinawa, local weather forecasters said.

The central government put the military on standby to help in case of flash floods and landslides.

Nine provinces were put on alert to stockpile medicines, food and fuel and to stop small ferries from leaving ports.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was forced to cancel a trip to the central Philippines due to the typhoon. Around 20 typhoons hit the Philippines every year, triggering flooding and mass evacuations.

Environmental groups blame illegal logging for making flooding worse, particularly in the central Philippines, where more than 5,000 people were killed in 1991 by flood waters triggered by a typhoon.

Update: 8:32pm Pinoy time.
Fengshen came in over North Bicol. Reports say that there is heavy rain. Beware of landslides.

Mayon is definitely a "she"!
Volcanoes do have a sex. Grumbling Mount Hibok-Hibok is rather male.
Looking always with his white and gray beard over Camiguin Island.

But Mayon is definitely a female. She is nearly always hiding her perfect and sensual shape behind some clouds, making you imagine her absolutely perfect body. Sometimes she shows a bit more to the lucky visitor and you start dreaming to see her in her entire beauty.

Only fatal point in this perfect picture is the fact that she is a deadly, heavy chain smoker.

Again CebuPacific leads the game

CEB reduces domestic fares permanently and introduces the "all-in" fares with the lowest seat sale ever!

Not even the rising cost of fuel can make your number one domestic carrier in the Philippines raise its fares, in fact, we are bringing them down and making it even easier and affordable to fly!

The new lower All-inclusive fares will take effect on June 12, 2008. This includes the fuel and insurance surcharge, aviation security fee and 12% VAT!

[Ed's note: Why isn't there Independence Day everyday?]

The ‘All-in’ pricing format is introduced with a seat sale across CEB’s domestic network. The promotional offer will run from June 12 to 17, 2008 and is valid for travel on July 1 to October 15, 2008. There are more than half a million seats up for grabs for the seat sale!

[Ed's note: No offer with the word "BUT". Where is the off-limits offer?]

‘All-in’ fares for short sectors such as Manila-Legaspi are at P699 one-way while a one-way Manila-Cebu flight would cost P999 and a Manila-Davao sector would cost only P1,499 during the seat sale.

[Ed's note: Hey CEB, clear the 999 trick, everybody knows, that one gets a peso back to make the security check's alarm ring.:-u]

With the ‘all-in’ pricing format you can compare CEB fares with other modes of transportation including ferries and buses, and you'd be surprise on how low our fares go!

After the seat sale, the one-way Manila-Davao would cost P2,499 ‘All-in’ while a one-way Manila-Cebu is sold at P1,499, while your out of pocket cost for one-way Manila-Legaspi is only P999 one-way.

[Ed's note: The idea is good. Sell seats at the price you pay. I concratulate CebuPacific's marketing for this initiative. If CEB reseigns from the 999 trick, I would be more smiling. When does Cebu Pacific deserve Camiguin - by the way, the most developing island of the Philippines.
