( 3 / 52 )Four people were killed when a twister struck in Alabat Island in Quezon province, an island in the eastern Philippines as tropical storm Feria (Nangka) batters large parts of the country. And two people were injured in the twister that hit the town of Perez , 120 kilometres south-east of Manila, late Tuesday.

All the victims were fishermen who stayed in their boat, which was docked at a wharf in the village of Sangirin when the twister struck.
The accident occurred as tropical storm Nangka pummelled the central and eastern Philippines, killing at least one person and leaving nine missing, according to the National Disaster Coordinating Council.
Thousands of passengers were stranded in various ports in the areas affected by the storm as the coast guard suspended sea travel due to strong winds and huge waves, the agency said.
Classes in elementary and high schools in Manila were also suspended due to heavy rains brought about by Nangka.
The weather bureau said Nangka was spotted early Wednesday 40 kilometres east north-east of Romblon island, 210 kilometres south of Manila.
The storm, which has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometres per hour and gusts of up to 90 kph, is moving northwest at 19 kph.
It is expected to pass near Manila late Wednesday.
The weather bureau advises residents in low-lying areas, mountainous and coastal areas under the path of Nangka to be prepared against flashfloods, landslides and storm surges.

These 2 strange dogs live in Quezon City. They were born without front legs, but have so elegantly arranged with their infirmities, that the passers-by call them Dogaroos, shot for dog kangaroos. The street vendor, to whom they belong, has been offered a lot of money for the dogs. But he does not want to sell.

( 3 / 54 )Just after noon a big structure out in the sea made us look at another thing than our dessert. It's been an aircraft carrier just off the coast of Anda.

Aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan to return to Iloilo
Eighteen Sailors from the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) will arrive in Iloilo June 21st to assist personnel from the Philippine Navy in a renovation project at Pavia National High School.
The carrier and its crew will be in international waters off of Panay Island on the one-year anniversary of Typhoon Frank. In June 2008, the carrier, five ships of its support group and more than a dozen helicopters assisted the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in providing relief to Panay, delivering more than 519,000 lbs. of rice, fresh water and medical supplies via helicopter to residents affected by the devastating storm.
"In more than 27 years of naval service, I've never been a part of a more rewarding mission," said Capt. Kenneth Norton, Ronald Reagan's commanding officer.
The sailors will fly to Iloilo in a C-2A Greyhound cargo aircraft to paint and lay concrete at Pavia National High School...

( 3.1 / 55 )As announced (see here) Paras Sea Cat tests the new link between Benoni (Camiguin) and Jagna (Bohol).

Please apologize the bad quality of the picture. Between the moment we saw the cat and the moment our camera had been ready, the Paras Sea Cat had done a big jump away from Camaiguin.
And what will happen to the Super Shutlle Ferry?
- It is much slower (4 hours instead of 2)
- It is less comfortable
- The fares are about the same
but:
- It can transport cars and trucks
We hope that the two ferries to Bohol can co-exist.
At the beginningm the PAras Sea cat sails only 3 times a week
(Here you find the schedules)
