Tabing Dagat
Tabing Dagat or the Culinary Discovery

In the Philippines it is often difficult to find a good restaurant with original Filipino cuisine. Either you go to a resort or a big western hotel and you eat some western style food. Or you go to an eatery and make your choice out of several pots.

The Tabing Dagat in Cagayan de Oro makes the difference. Situated in Opol, some 20 minutes by car from Cagayan de Oro, you find the Tabing Dagat at the end of a pier like you find them in Brighton or Bournemouth.

The decoration is all bamboo and the menu card makes you dream. With life piano music in the background, a fresh sea breeze and candle light, your dinner becomes a really special moment.

The food quality and the presentation are outstanding. The seafood is certified catch of the day. Think of 3 hours for a dinner with friends and do reserve a table when you plan to go to the Tabing Dagat during weekends. +63 8822 754488 or send a mail: tbng_dagat@yahoo.com

And last but not least: The prices are absolutely friendly. Think of PHP 600 per person (various frehs seafood including wine, beer and soft drinks)

Bon appetit.

You must get up early to see the beauty
Mayon is magic. Frequent readers of this blog do know my preference for volcanoes. But Mayon is not a volcano as others, Mayon is the most beautiful volcano on earth.
But to see the beauty you have to get up early. 06:00 am is perfect, because some minutes later the sun heaths the atmosphere and soon the beauty will be hidden behind cumulus clouds.

So, if you are an admirer of natural beauty, get up early.

Mayon's activity is currently very low in spite of the permanent gas and steam cloud in the crater. But beware! About every 23 months, the Mayon volcano erupts, sometimes gently but often violent. If you are a volcano-addict, please vote for Mayon in the election of the New 7 Natural Wonders.

WARNING: This volcano is smoking! (And as they say, smoking may be dangerous...). This advice comes from PHILVOLCS an not the WHO ;-)

Vote for Mount Mayon: New 7 Natural Wonders.

My thanks to Ierene Cortez for having thrown me out of the bed just in time. Without her, these pictures would been filled with clouds. Mwah! and ILY!

Gasoline prices make the poor still poorer
This morning I had to take a taxi from Cagayan de Oro to the airport. The taxi driver did not want to put on the meter and asked for PHP 150. I refused because the usual fare is PHP 110 - 120. He finally agreed to put on the meter. The final fare was PHP 105.

During the trip he explained to me the problem of high gasoline prices. The liter is now at PHP 64 in Cagayan de Oro. The ride to the airport and back needs about 2 liters. If the taxi is empty on its way back to town, the driver looses about PHP 10.

The driver also told me that in the morning there are no passengers from the airport back to town. And he had to go back to town, otherwise he would make no business until 10:00am

I gave him PHP 140. A bit less than he had asked for, but more than the meter showed.
