( 3 / 129 )We are sorry for 255 SMARTbro users. We had to lock them out.
On September 21 and 22 our server had been attacked by a SMARTbro user.
This user did repeatedly download the whole content of our website.
We think, he will use the content in an illegal way (Google fraud, use of copyright protected information). We therefore have locked a range of IP addresses of the SMARTbro network and are actively tracking the thieves.
(It's always good to have a CISSP on board

( 3 / 127 )When a new tropical storm or a typhoon is approaching the people in the Philippines start to discuss. The hottest topic is the increase of typhoons in the last years.
Is this true?
During the last days we did analyze the tropical storms and typhoons between 1950 and 2008. These are more than 50 years of statistical data.
If you want to prove something you can use the same statistical data as if you want to prove the contrary.
This is why you should know:
- We analyzed all tropical storms and typhoons of 100°-140° east and 0°-40° north.
- We only counted storms with sustained wind speed (10 minutes average) of over 63km/h
- About 50% of all storms did not make landfall and only few touched the Philippines.

This chart shows clearly that the average number of typhoons per year decreased in the last years, while 1990s encountered more than the average (blue line) number of typhoons.

The months of July, August and September are the typhoon months. February and March are the most quiet months. (The 2000s line is only up to September 21, 2008. This is why it is lower than the others).

( 3 / 128 )For the south of the Philippines Hagupit is already over.
Yesterday, Saturday 09/20, several ferries could not sail, but by now the sea got quiet with wave heights of 1m20.
A coconut palm tree about a meter from our office broke into 2 pieces at 01:00 am. Fortunately the top did not fall on our roof. Positive surprise: our breakfast was enriched by fresh buco (coconut milk).
The article below will continue to track Hagupit until it will disappear as tropical storm in the Chinese mainland.

( 3 / 234 )We are working on our new weather, climate and typhoon pages. They are not yet on-line, but here you already can track the tropical storm HAGUPIT.
This kind of tracking will be implemented in our new "typhoon" page.
The chart below is updated automatically (approx. every 2 hours). So come back to track the storm.

( 2.9 / 304 )This morning we got a feedback from a traveller:
" Thanks to all involved who wrote the NAIA airport guides. Using the information provided, we passed the arrival, transfer and departure without problems! Never thought it was so easy. The guides are just perfect! "
This makes us happy. We already had found that, since the last Google review in mid June 2008, our Airport Guides got more visitors. When we checked the key words leading to us, we found:
NAIA Airport Guide: position #3 in www.google.com
Manila Airpot Guide: position #9 in www.google.com
We then studied the content of the top ranking guides and got shocked.
Either there is nearly no content (e.g. www.internationalairportguide.com)
or the information was simply wrong (e.g. www.travel-library.com).
The later write: "Airport Taxes: Airport departure tax is usually included in the ticket price. Enquire at the time of ticketing."
You know it better: Terminal fee at Manila International is PHP 750.00
We will continue to provide you with verified and up to date information.
Google's ranking is based on an algorithm. The program can not understand what it reads and can not decide whether the information true or wrong. Sorry for Google.

( 3 / 233 )At breakfast this morning the sea just off our house began to boil. During several minutes we could observe a coordinated hunt. Under water, some big fish (not identified) did hunt a swarm of smaller fish.
In the air above the boiling water a swarm of seabirds caught the jumping fish.

Our friend, local fisherman and expert of nature, Artemio, told us this evening that the fish of this morning were Tuna hunting smaller fish and the birds above were Tabuntabun.
Our expert and friend:

( 3 / 303 )Sorry, yesterday we could not work because the electricity had been cut between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. So we went on a little trip up in the mountains just above Yumbing. Looking up in the trees we saw this:

L A N Z O N E S
A local farmer brought us two hands full of sweet Lanzons. They were so sweet, that after 5 minutes there were no more Lanzones left (but our bellies were full of them ...

If you like sweet Lanzones, so come to Camiguin on October 17 to 24. The whole island of Camiguin is then celebrating the Lanzones Festival.

( 3 / 279 )The government of GMA pushes the airport projects throughout the Philippines. There are 10 projects in different stages of progress, two of them are the Cagayan/Iligan - Laguindingan project and the Tagbilaran-Panglao project.

Following this evolution, we did rewrite our "Philippines Domestic Airports" page. The page now contains the full list of all Philippines airports with their exact position, their status and a positioning system using Google maps/satellite. Here is a sample:
Do you know where Daet Airport can be found?
