( 3 / 6 )Typhoons need warm water of at least 27 degrees centigrade and humid air to get active.
These conditions can only be found inside the ITCZ (Intertropical Convergence Zone).
This ITCZ follows the sun north and south of the equator. As the sun has passed south of the equator on September 23, the northern ITCZ is moving south and so do the typhoons.
See also our analysis on Tropical Storms and Typhoons.
The last 2 typhoons aproaching the Philippines Lupit/Ramil and Parma/Pepeng lost their strength in the colder water and drier air over the sea of North Luzon.
The new depressions will hit the Philippines in the Bicol area and Samar until mid of December.
The new Tropical Depression over Guam, 23W, heads directly to Bicol.
It is too early to alert people, but PAGASA is already monitoring the developing storm.
PAGASA informs:
Barely had "Ramil", the third typhoon of the month—left the country after an erratic, weeklong juggernaut, another potential storm is brewing in the Pacific.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Sunday it was watching a low-pressure area, but it was still "too early to tell" if it would head for the Philippines.
If it does, the weather disturbance will enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday of this week and possibly hit central or southern Luzon or the Bicol area.
The projected area goes from northern Minadano up to entire Luzon.
We keep on track.

( 3 / 21 )Tropical Storm Lupit (Ramil) is moving away.
We still keep an eye on this storm as it is moving north to north-east (NNE). We have already seen storm tracks that were simply unbelievable. If it should come back, we shall inform you.
It seems that Tropical Storm Lupit (Ramil) might even track back from Okinawa, but the dry air and colder water in the north east will further reduce its strength.
With this final message we terminate the daily reports on Lupit (Ramil).
