Camiguin Waterfalls
Short Description
There are 2 impressive waterfalls on Camiguin Island. The Katibawasan Falls are a developed recreation area. The Tuawasan Falls are untouched and remote up in the mountains.
Time and Distance
The Katibawasan Falls are directly accessible from Mambajao. Just a bit south, out of the town center a 4.6km road brings you up. This is a concrete road except for the last 600m, where it turns into gravel and mud. If you only want to visit, reserve 1 hour. But it would be a pity not to swimm in the fresh and clear waters.
The Tuawasan Falls are on the west coast of the island. Take the ring road counter clockwise and drive to Brgy. Catibac (12km) or Compol (14km). Until Brgy. Mainit the road is concrete. Afterwards it becomes a steep gravel road, which is rather the ground of a dry river... The 6km road takes you up into a wild mountain region. The last kilometer you have to walk and we recommend to hire one of the boys up there as your guide. Otherwise you might not find the falls. The hike takes about 20 minutes (one way). Reserve at least 2 hours for this trip.
Equipment
Swimming suit, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen for both falls.
While at Katibawasan Falls you can buy drinks (and t-shirts and other souvenirs) you will find absolutely nothing at Tuawasan Falls. But the water is of excellent quality, so you can drink while swimming.
What to see
Waterfalls! and tropical forest (rain forest at Tuawasan Falls).
When you go to Tuawasan Falls do not miss world's smallest prison in Brgy. Mainit.
What to do
Swim and explore the surrounding nature.
