CAMIGUIN Transportation
After some months of extremely good transportation facilities, 3 weeks ago the downgrade started and now transportation from and to Camiguin is nearly as bad as it had been in summer 2008. Remember, in August 2008 SEAIR stopped its Camiguin operation without any warning. Paras Sea Cat has definitely stopped its direct ferry connection from Cagayan de Oro. Oceanjet has interrupted its fast-ferry from Balingon to Benoni and the Jagna. They say, that they are in paperwork in Cebu. What ever this may mean ... The Super Shuttle Ferry from Benoni to Jagna had been under repair. But this morning we saw it sailing over to Bohol. And in the air: After a glorious start of operation, Midsea-Express has thinned out their schedules. Now they fly 3 times per week from Cebu to Camiguin and back. Unfortunately their schedule is not reliable. Aviatour Air still offers affordable taxi and charter flights from Cebu to Camiguin. With Aviatour Air you can fly from any island to any island if they have a working airstrip. Usually you arrive in the Philippines in Manila. There are 3 ports and 1 airport on Camiguin. The 3 ports are in Balbagon (near Mambajao), Benoni and Guinsiliban. The airport is just north of Mambajao. 2) Today Benoni is far the busiest ferry port of Camiguin. There are up to 15 daily connections from Benoni to Balingoan on Mindanao. The trip takes about 60 to 75 minutes depending on weather conditions. The fare is PHP 130.00 (Plus PHP 2.50 terminal fee!). 3) Guinsiliban is dreaming during the whole day, but 1 to 2times a day, when the ferry from Mindanao arrives, it transforms in to one busy little town.
Here are some pictures of the ports and the airport.
