CAMIGUIN Transport
Timetables in the Philippines do exist, but never believe in them. The best source of information are the websites of the carriers. Unfortunately some programmers are more lazy then ours... Call the airline to make sure that you get your flight. Make also sure that you have enough time left, sometimes check-in and security controls may take a very, very long time.
Usually you arrive in the Philippines in Manila or in Cebu-City. There are direct flights to Mambajao on Camiguin from Cebu-City (by SEAIR only). CAUTION: If there are not enough bookings, SEAIR cancels this flight.
You may also choose to fly from Manila to Cagayan de Oro, take a bus and then the ferry to Camiguin. The later connection is available all over the year.
There are 3 ports and 1 airport on Camiguin. The 3 ports are in Balbagon (near Mambajao), Benoni and Guinsiliban. The airport is just north of Mambajao.
1) At the port of Balbagon they are building a new passenger terminal and one can expect that the ferry traffic to Mambajao will increase. But only god knows, when the building will be finished. There is currently only one weekly ferry connection from Cebu-City to Balbagon (Mambajao).
2) Today Benoni is far the busiest ferry port of Camiguin. There are up to 15 daily connections from Benoni to Balingoan on Mindanao. The trip takes about 60 to 75 minutes depending on weather conditions. The fare is PHP 120. (Plus PHP 2.50 terminal fee!).
3) Guinsiliban is dreaming during the whole day, but 3 times a day, when the ferry from Mindanao arrives, it transforms in to one busy down.
The airport is just north of Mambajao. The small Letow LET-410 of SEAIR approaches always twice. The first time to drive the cattle and people off the runway and the second time to land. The take-off an hour later is breath taking. Just before plunging in the sea, the small aircraft makes a jump in the air.
Locals say, that the runway will be prolongated for Philippines Airlines will be able to land with their B373 jet-liners. Everything is possible, but nothing needs to happen...
Here are some pictures of the ports and the airport.
