Malumpati Springs and Rainforest

 

Short Description

The Malumpati Springs are known for their cristal clear water. They are also known to be one of the largest vertical springs in the world. The pond has a diameter of 30 meters. The depth is not yet known because divers who explored the pond could not get deeper than 40 meters. There the water pressure became to strong. The micro-climate around the springs and the rocky soil are favourable for the development of a the rainforest.

Time and Distance

From Kalibo it is a ride of about 1 hour. The distance is some 60km. Take a bus or a jeepney to Pandan. In Pandan you have to change to a tricycle for the Malumpati Springs. The distance from Pandan to the springs is about 6km.

Equipment

Everything you need for an enjoying bath.You may also bring food and drinks with you, because at the entrance you find a rest area with BBQ. The small sri-sari store provides you with drinks, food and everything you need for a pleasant BBQ party.

What to see

First thing you will see is the rest area around the pools. Everyday you find families spending their pasttime there.
Cross over the stonebridge and continue past the pump-station. You will be in a tropical forest - not yet the rainforest.
After another 15 minutes of walk along the river, you will discover the Malumpati Spring bassin. Go around it, becaus in its most remote part, there is another spring and there is the rainforest. Sit down. There are lots of animals and plants around you.
Return to the rest area on the other shore of the river.

What to do

Recreation and discovery.
Swim, splash and have fun in the well maintained pool.
The nature around invites you to explore on a short walk. Get lost in a real tropical forest without danger.

Costs

In January 2008 the entrance fee was PHP 10.
