“JELAWAT / Lawin” upgraded to Typhoon Cat.1
Severe Tropical Storm “JELAWAT / Lawin” has again intensified and is now a Typhoon Cat. 1.
“JELAWAT / Lawin” has also changed its moving direction to North-West. The typhoon is slowly moving at 7 km/h.

– Moving slowly North-West at 7 km/h
– Central pressure is 965 hPa
– Max. wind is 120 km/h near center
– Gusts are 150 km/h
PAGASA issued the following storm warnings:
Signal 1 (30-60 km/h winds) in all Samar provinces
Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 – 20 mm per hour (heavy – intense) within the 600 km diameter of the Typhoon.
Southwest Monsoon enhanced by the Typhoon will bring light to moderate rains in Western Visayas and Mindanao.
Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao due to big waves generated by Typhoon “JELAWAT / Lawin”.
