Laguindingan maybe later than announced

Last week Cebu Pacific Air informed their customers that their flights to and from Cagayan de Oro will be operating in the new Laguindingan Airport as by June 30, 2013. See here Link

But today at noon-time we got a private message from a high ranking government director saying:

It appears that the scheduled opening of the 7.8 billion pesos Laguindingan Airport on April 30 is postponed to June 15 due to absence of navigational facilities which would limit the frequency of flights to CdO. A distance of almost 35 kms in narrow highway would surely result to traffic congestion while the widening component is just starting on a snail pace. While the gov’t is pushing for opening of the airport, local businessmen are against. Can we not put our acts together thru dialogues?
“RD”: Incomplete planning. I think the road widening should have been done ahead of the airport. Without the navigational facilities flights will be limited in daytime since pilots will be doing manual. No flights during bad weather. By the way this project was conceptualized and implemented in the Arroyo admin.

If you fly to or from Cagayan de Oro in the next days or weeks, we strongly recommend to ask your airline, from which airport they will operate your flight: Lumbia or Laguindingan. Hair
