New Hyperbaric Chamber in Davao

Hyperbaric Chamber Davao

Hyperbaric Chamber and Facility in Davao being inaugurated today.

On June 25, 2016 the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao announced the begin of construction of a new hyperbaric chamber facility in Davao City. Today, 2018-03-09 the two chambers are being inaugurated.

Such a facility already existed years before but had been transferred to Manila because only very few people down in the south needed pressure treatment. In 2014 and 2015 the region of Davao recorded an increasing number of  dive bases and scuba divers. The absence of a hyperbaric chamber system had prevented the tourism department from fully promoting the region, especially the Island Garden City of Samal, as a diving destination.

TIEZA funded the facility which now houses the two Hyperbaric Chamber Systems (HCS). The Monoplace HCS was procured by the Office of the President through the facilitation of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office while the Multiplace HCS is from TIEZA.

[Editor’s comment:] Providing that you dive within your personal limits it is extremely unlikely that you will need any treatment for decompression injuries. Should you not feel well during or after a dive, inform the staff of your dive base. Any seriously managed dive base has staff with emergency training and can organize transportation to the nearest treatment facility.
