Terminal fee in NAIA again at PHP 750!
The pleasure of a reduced terminal fee in Manila’s NAIA airport lasted only one short month. Read also here
According to the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), Manila International Airport Authority will reapply its application for imposing an additional PHP 250 to the current PHP 500 terminal fee.
Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas said the extra funds are needed for operations and maintenance of the airport terminals.
The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) also debunked the notion that the NAIA imposes a lot of fees, unlike other countries and said that the terminal fees and travel taxes are incorporated in the airplane tickets purchased in other countries.
In the Philippines, airlines refuse to incorporate the said fees due to the many exemptions such as the OFW and senior citizen privileges, enjoyed by a number of passengers.
The DOTC, however, plans to fix this issue within the next 6 months, by implementing a system where all passengers are required to pay all fees upon purchase of a plane ticket. A refund receipt will be provided for passengers, who are exempted from payment.
[Editor’s comment]: Getting a refund in the Philippines is a really bad joke! First you have to fill in a bunch of forms, then you have to pay a processing fee and then after some hours waiting you will be asked to come back in 10 days to get your cash. Forget it!
